So, I have a lot of catching up to do in the public health arena but luckily I have good friends watching out for public health injustices everywhere they go. My good friend Valerie Fox was perusing the internet and what did she find but this:
“The Kentucky Tobacco and Candy Association was formed to promote the general business welfare of all persons, firms or corporations engaged in the business of distributing, marketing or selling tobacco, candy and related products at wholesale.”
Welfare of all persons. . . interesting statement. I personally don’t think TOBACCO and WELFARE should go anywhere even remotely in the same sentence.
Just the other day I was at my local mobile retailer and my buddy pulled out his pack of gum and at first I said out loud “That is cool pack” and then I saw it. . . “Helll Nooooo” I said out loud! The gum pack is now identical to a cigarette pack!! WHY?? (Well I know why. . . )
The bottom line is this. . . Wrigley’s is owned by Mars Bars which is owned in part by Phillip Morris which is the Altria Group.
